Name: Softkit -> Softpaw -> Deadtip
Age: 94 moons.
Gender: Female.
Clan: Echoclan.
Rank: Head Medicine Cat.
Character Slot: Normal.
Character Status: Alive.
Character Add-ons: N/A.
Appearance: A large she-cat with tan and brown tabby markings and a missing left ear.
Personality: To most, Deadtip seems like an intimidating figure. She is much larger than most other cats in her clan and that alone makes for an imposing presence. The missing ear and slightly pronounced fangs she has add to this caricature too. The truth however is very different. Despite her large size, Deadtip is a very gentle cat with strong protective instincts over cats smaller and weaker than her. This is especially true for kits and apprentices and the large medicine cat has a soft spot for younger cats. The queens who visit her to get their kits checked on trust her enough to leave the babies with her when they need a break.
This medicine cat had always been quiet and soft-spoken, even when she was just a young apprentice. She is a very good listener and often encourages her patients to speak their minds and talk about their problems when she's tending to them, offering them a friendly ear and some words of encouragement as well as medical attention. Cats often leave her den with a new perspective on the things that were troubling them and some advice from an old Russian medicine cat.
She does, however, tend to close herself off from others, keeping to her own company unless Bloodmoon seeks her out for some silent company or reassurance. She has trouble forming friendships with other cats due to her reputation as a scary looking cat, and tends to only speak to those who were brave enough to tear down her boundaries and get close to her. Those who have done this can count her as a true friend, and one who would staunchly defend them if it came down to it.
History: Deadtip doesn't really remember much about her kithood or her parents. Her mother died from a sickness when Deadtip was only a few moons old, and her father had been killed in a cave in down one of Nightclan's more unexplored tunnels. She was raised by a few queens until she was old enough to be an apprentice and that was good enough for her.
She knew from a young age that she wasn't meant to be a warrior - or male for that matter. The young cat rejected those who referred to her as a tom and strongly declared that she was indeed female. It took a little while, but soon everyone referred to her correctly and the apprentice could feel comfortable in her own fur. She even put up with warrior training for a while until the thought of hurting other cats started to really bother her. She was apprenticed to an elderly medicine cat, Sagesnout, who taught the attentive cat what it meant to be a medicine cat. Deadtip chose her own name, wanting something stronger than the name she had been assigned, and the leader of Nightclan accepted her as a new medicine cat. Deadtip wore her new name with pride and devoted herself to working as a medicine cat.
Things changed for Deadtip when she was given Bloodkit to look after. She nursed the poor injured kit back to life, singing her to sleep when she cried and vigilantly watching over her until she seemed likely to survive. Having this little kit to look after caused Deadtip to make a decision, and she started learning everything she could about looking after young and injured kits, becoming Nightclan's equivalent of a midwife and pediatrician. The rest of the clan started to come to her when their kits became ill and she did her utmost best to help them.
Unexpectedly, Deadtip fell in love. A she-cat named Doestep started spending time in Deadtip's medicine cat den, watching as she helped young kits, and the two began to get to know each other. It didn't take long for them to become close, Doestep breaking down Deadtip's emotional walls, and they became mates. Deadtip was overjoyed when Doestep told her about her pregnancy and she looked forward to becoming a mother. The happiness was cut short when Doestep gave birth prematurely and Deadtip was forced to choose between saving her and saving the kits. Doestep made her promise to save their children and Deadtip had to watch her mate die while she tried to save the kits. Fawnkit, Harekit and Moosekit were given to queens to nurse in an attempt to keep them alive, but Harekit and Moosekit didn't last more than a few moons before they succumbed.
Deadtip raised Fawnkit, telling him that his parents had died and he was an orphan, and allowed the rest of the clan to believe this as well. The guilt of not being able to save her mate and children weighed so heavily on Deadtip's conscious that she didn't even confide in Bloodwing. Fawnkit became Fawnpaw, and Fawnpaw became Fawnfang. Eventually Fawnfang found out the truth of his heritage and attacked Deadtip in her den. The medicine cat didn't fight back, not wanting to hurt her only living child. Bloodwing intervened and ripped a chunk out of Fawnfang's ear, causing him to flee. Deadtip has refused to talk about her son ever since.
